12 Days of Speeches: Elder Renlund (Day 1)

Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”: Handel’s Messiah echoes Isaiah in celebrating the many roles of Christ. Among the dozens of titles given to Christ, Helaman spoke of Christ as our foundation:
Remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall. (Hel. 5:12)
In his BYU devotional, “Constructing Spiritual Stability,” given in 2014, Elder Dale G. Renlund also spoke of the need for an anchor in Christ:
“Without Christ, we are driven like a vessel tossed about upon the waves. We have no power because we have no sail. We have no stability, especially in times of storm, because we have no anchor. We have no direction or purpose because we don’t have anything with which to steer. . . .
“My dear brothers and sisters, I testify to you that our Redeemer lives. I know that Jesus Christ rose from the tomb. . . . It is Jesus Christ who directs this work through His prophet and through others whom we sustain as prophets, seers, and revelators. I know that this is true.”

We here at BYU Speeches feel privileged to share uplifting, educational, and Christ-centered speeches with you all year round. This time of year, when the world celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, we too want to share testimony of an all-loving Savior whose birth, life, and death testify of peace on earth and goodwill toward men. In our version of the 12 days of Christmas, we are sharing the testimonies of the greatest living testifiers of Jesus Christ: His chosen prophet and apostles. May you find more peace and greater faith through their words.
