Alexander Dushku

of the Seventy

In 1964, Nicholas and Donna Lee Dushku visited the World Fair in New York. After being moved upon by the Spirit at a Church-sponsored pavilion, Nicholas invited missionaries to teach him and Donna, his soon to be wife, and they were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.¹ Two years later, their son, Alexander Dushku, was born in Fairfield, California.

In 1986, Elder Dushku began his missionary service in Lisbon, Portugal, where he helped people come to know Jesus Christ just like the people at that pavilion did for his parents back in 1964.

“It wasn’t until I got on my mission that I began to really understand the glory of missionary work and just how powerful it can be. It just completely opened my eyes to the kingdom of God and what it means,” he said.²

Before his mission, Elder Dushku began his studies at Brigham Young University. While there, he met Jennifer Burnham. When he saw her, “[his] heart leapt.”³ They became good friends before he left for Portugal and got married six months after he returned home. They have built their marriage on faith in Jesus Christ, dedication to the gospel, and love for Heavenly Father.

Elder Dushku has since served as an elders quorum president, a bishopric counselor, a high councilor, a bishop, and a stake president. He now serves as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in this capacity since August 15, 2023. In his latest general conference address, he taught that each of God’s children can develop a testimony of their own—“one ray at a time.”⁴ He continues to reinforce that truth and share the love of God in both his teachings and actions as he chooses to follow Jesus Christ day by day.
