Brennan C. Platt is a professor of economics at Brigham Young University, where he has taught since 2006. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics from Arizona State University, graduating from the Honors College and summa cum laude in 2001. He then completed his master’s degree and PhD in economics at the University of Minnesota, where he also served as a research and teaching assistant during his graduate studies.
Professor Platt’s research explores the theory of price formation, with a focus on how prices emerge in search environments and how they are distorted by insurance. He also examines all-pay auctions, studying unique markets such as penny auctions and political rent seeking. His work appears in leading journals including the American Economic Review, Management Science, and the European Economic Review.
Platt and his wife, Christine, have six children, three of whom are adopted, and have opened their home and hearts to many more children through foster care. They strive to help the most vulnerable by sharing their love and resources and to live their lives as committed servants of the Lord.
