Brian W. Radford
Brian W. Radford was only a kid when his interest in technology began. In his childhood, he would type in code from magazines and troubleshoot anything that seemed amiss. Similarly, his love for BYU developed as a youth when he attended an EFY conference in Provo and as an adult when he met his future wife at a BYU Football game. This young curiosity in technology and newfound love for the university sparked a career that would bring historic changes to Saints around the world.
With an impressive 25 years of leadership experience, Radford has led an influential career in information technology. While assuming various roles for the Provo Missionary Training Center (MTC) and in the Missionary Department for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Radford’s work extended technological possibilities for missionaries all over the world. This not only includes developing refined technological strategies for missionary training worldwide, but also the implementation of smartphones for roughly 70,000 missionaries serving across the world. During his time at the MTC, he feels that his biggest accomplishment was helping missionaries come home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the concluding years of Radford’s 28 years working for the Church, he led as the director of technology and product management. In this role, his leadership and contributions to system-wide technology initiatives paved the way for his new appointment at BYU.
Radford began his role as vice president of information technology and as chief information officer for BYU in October of 2024. As his work extends across the Church Educational System, his embodiment of mission- and church-aligned values has proven significant. In his work, Radford has taken sincere interest in the students under his direction, both with the Church and at the MTC. That same devotion extends to BYU, where he is most moved by the love and support students show one another—something he witnesses daily.
Radford earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in instructional psychology and technology from BYU as well as a bachelor’s degree in computer science from BYU. His passion for business development drove him forward in executive leadership positions for several organizations preceding his time with the Church, including American Business Solutions. His continuing impact at BYU is unfolding through the dedication and inspiration that he brings to this campus.
