Edward B. Rowe
Religious Leader (General Authority Seventy)
Edward Butler Rowe was born on April 23, 1967, in Provo, Utah. As the fourth of six children, Rowe grew up surrounded by his family and was immersed in the gospel. His childhood included hundreds of family home evenings that supported his spiritual growth into adult life.
Rowe’s testimony and experiences of the gospel are not only built on his childhood but also by serving a mission in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1986. As he paused his own education and football career at Brigham Young University, his service and effort to bring others to the gospel deepened his own conversion. Rowe’s faith is deeply influenced by his high school sweetheart and wife, Brooke, who he describes as the definition of charity.
After his mission, Rowe returned to BYU where he navigated his career path. Prompted by faith in God’s plan for him, he spent a summer studying in Russia, where his experiences shaped how he lives today. Rowe graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, which helped him learn the importance of asking questions and having real intent behind them. He then continued his education, earning a master’s degree in public policy as well as a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago, paving the way for his work in the field of law.
Rowe’s career in international law led him to travel the world, settling international disputes and representing foreign governments. Through this work, he moved his family around with him to places like Washington, D.C.; Africa; Europe; and Eurasia. For some of these transitions, Rowe’s family lived in under-developed or war-stricken areas.
Rowe was a dedicated leader in his past Church callings. His roles included missionary, bishop, elders quorum president, stake Young Men president, high councilor, and mission president. Rowe was serving as a member of the Twelfth Quorum of the Seventy in the Utah Area when he was called as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April of 2025.
His service as a General Authority Seventy can be witnessed through the love and compassion he has for those around the world. He testifies of Christ as our rock and covenants as our “climbing-anchors” through mortality, stating, “Indeed, Heavenly Father designed His plan so that we could rely upon and continually interact with Christ and His Atonement to ascend.”1
