Gérald Caussé
of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Gérald Caussé has been a devout leader through his callings of the Church. As second-generation members of the Church, Elder Caussé and his wife, Valérie Lucienne Babin, dedicate their lives to the service in their callings and the continuation of the Lord’s work. His discipleship centers around caring for God’s creations and finding hope in Jesus Christ. He and his wife, whom he has known since childhood, are the parents of five children.
Elder Caussé received his master’s degree in business from ESSEC Business School in 1987 and began a career in the food industry. He worked with a number of grocery store chains and food distribution services and was general manager of Pomona before he entered fulltime Church service.
He is also an accomplished pianist, having published two albums: Joyful in 2019 and Noël in 2020. Elder Caussé believes that playing the piano in his youth, particularly in church, was instrumental in strengthening his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He sees music as an international language that serves as a channel of the spirit.
Before he was called as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in November of 2025, Elder Caussé served as the presiding bishop of the Church. In this role, he managed humanitarian aid, welfare programs, and membership record organization. Elder Caussé has also served as stake president, stake president’s counselor, and Area Seventy.
During his calling as presiding bishop of the Church, Elder Caussé’s service moved his family around several countries like Germany and the United States. He and his wife recognize and praise the strength of their children amidst the struggle of moving. They are admired for being so consecrated and changing their lives as the service of their parents’ callings required.
Elder Caussé directs his ministry particularly to the youth of the world. He teaches young adults that the gathering of Israel is the most important event happening today, encouraging them to be part of it. Elder Caussé says in his BYU devotional address in December 2013, “The power that allows us to raise ourselves above our mortal condition and our human abilities is called the grace of the Savior.”1
