Born on October 6, 1960, Elder Kevin R. Duncan grew up on a family farm in West Point, Utah. Living on the farm instilled in him a strong work ethic and a love of labor—qualities that shaped his character and later success. At a young age, he was encouraged by a General Authority to memorize the missionary discussions, which prepared him for his mission in the Chile Santiago South Mission. This experience deepened his commitment to serve God and His children for the rest of his life.
Elder Duncan’s commitment to the Lord and his remarkable work ethic carried him after losing his first wife, Wendy Wallentine, in a tragic car accident in 1984. Despite facing immense loss and the challenges of single parenthood, he decided to pursue higher education at Brigham Young University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a master’s degree in taxation, and a JD by 1991. While at BYU, he met Nancy Elizabeth Smart, whom he married in 1986.
Professionally, Elder Duncan began as a tax attorney in Seattle, Washington. In 1996 he founded CaseData Corporation, a litigation technology company, from which he retired in 2005. Following his retirement, he and his wife served as service missionaries in South America, where they contributed to the Church’s legal work. Later they presided over the Chile Santiago North Mission, a role that brought him back to the region where he had served as a young missionary.
In April 2010, Elder Duncan was sustained as a General Authority Seventy. At the time of his call, he was serving as a member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy in the Utah South Area. Throughout his life, Elder Duncan has served in a number of other Church callings, including bishop’s counselor, ward mission leader, high councilor, temple ordinance worker, and president of the Central America Area. He is currently the Executive Director of the Temple Department at Church headquarters.
As a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and a father of five children, Elder Duncan grounds his life in the principles of faith, service, and obedience to prophetic counsel. His ministry and personal experiences demonstrate his unwavering commitment to the gospel and his love for the Savior’s work.
