Dr. Kristine Hansen earned her BA degree in English and an MA in teaching English as a second language from BYU. She earned her PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin and joined the BYU faculty in 1987.
Professor Hansen teaches courses in advanced writing, rhetoric, pedagogy, and research methods. She wrote A Rhetoric for the Social Sciences, a textbook currently used in English 315. She served as coordinator of the English composition program from 1990 to 1993, and she currently serves as associate dean of General Education and Honors. She chairs the University Writing Committee and edits a monthly newsletter, Writing Matters.
Dr. Hansen has been honored as an Alcuin Fellow and with the Karl G. Maeser Professor of General Education award. She is also president of the BYU Faculty Women’s Association.
The Delta, Utah, native served a mission to Germany in the early 1970s, and she has since held many different Church callings. Sister Hansen currently serves as a Cub Scout den leader in the Orem Park Third Ward. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, biking, bird watching, and reading.
