Dr. Larry H. Peer is a professor of comparative literature and a Karl G. Maeser Professor of General Education. He has been a faculty member at three other universities: in the Germanic and Slavic Languages Department at the University of Maryland, as professor and head of the Comparative Literature Department at the University of Georgia, and as Altman Distinguished Professor of Humanities and Philosophy at Miami (Ohio) University.
Dr. Peer is the author of eight scholarly books, a book of poetry, and a book on gospel principles, as well as having produced nearly 50 scholarly essays. He was three-times Honors Professor of the Year at the University of Georgia and at BYU has been Blue Key Professor of the Year and Honors Professor of the Year. In 1997 he was honored as Chi Gamma Lambda national Comparative Literature Professor of the Year.
He and his wife, Janet Priday, are the parents of nine children.
