Sherami L. Jara is an assistant dean in the College of Humanities at Brigham Young University, where she directs the Liberal Arts Advisement and Careers Center. In this role, she helps more than 7,000 students thrive academically and prepare for meaningful careers. She works closely with faculty and staff to weave career skills into the curriculum, teaches courses that help students build professional abilities, and partners with alumni to strengthen mentoring opportunities and connections.
Before joining BYU in 2010, Jara spent four years with the Utah Department of Workforce Services as a regional trainer, curriculum designer, and state program specialist. She also worked as a senior consultant with SLJ Strategic Solutions, where she helped organizations and universities design high-impact internship programs and improve leadership training and organizational processes. In addition, she worked as managing director of career and professional advancement at LDS Business College (now Ensign College) directing college-wide efforts to connect students with employers and strengthen career readiness.
Jara received her bachelor’s degree in English and history in 2000 and her master’s degree in public administration in 2014, both from Brigham Young University. Outside of her university work, Jara volunteers with Their Story Is Our Story, where she helps give a voice to refugees by summarizing their personal stories for wider audiences. She is passionate about organizational development, leadership coaching, and helping students and teams discover purpose and passion in their work and communities.
