Trevor Wilson
Director and Associate Dean of Student-Athletes, BYU Built4Life Center
Trevor Wilson has dedicated his career at BYU to education, athletics, and student development. He currently serves as senior associate athletic director for student-athletes and as director of the Built4Life Center, where he oversees a wide range of services designed to support student-athletes academically, personally, and professionally.
Originally from Salem, Oregon, Wilson was a student-athlete himself. While earning his BA of Science from BYU–Hawaii, Wilson competed in both basketball and cross-country. He then went on to earn an MA in teaching from Willamette University and an EdD in educational leadership from BYU–Provo. His work guiding student-athletes through academic and personal growth is supported by the foundation he gained through his doctoral training in leadership and education.
Before his time working at BYU, Wilson built a career in both K–12 and higher education administration. He served as a principal at Ogden High School and Mt. Ogden Junior High and held athletic director positions at Westminster College and North Salem High School. Early in his career, he also worked as an instructor and assistant men’s basketball coach at Weber State University.
Wilson’s career is consistently focused on helping students succeed in demanding environments , and his work at BYU reflects a long-standing commitment to integrating athletics into education. Due to this, his work at BYU—particularly through the Built4Life program—helps to prepare student-athletes not only for competition, but for long-term personal and professional development. In an attempt to aid student-athlete development in accordance with university standards, Wilson has been responsible for programs involving academic support, mental health resources, and career preparation since joining the university staff in 2011. As part of the restructuring of BYU Athletics in preparation for its transition to the Big 12 Conference, his leadership role expanded in 2022 when he was named an athletic director.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Wilson enjoys recreational activities such as wakeboarding and surfing. He is married to Karri (Louis) Wilson, and they have three children and thirteen grandchildren.
