Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is computer-based technology that allows machines to perform tasks formerly done by humans alone. AI simulates human thinking, learning, and creativity. When used correctly, AI can be a tool for learning, programming, and planning. Elder David A. Bednar taught, “To navigate the complex intersection of spirituality and technology, Latter-day Saints should humbly and prayerfully (1) identify gospel principles that can guide their use of artificial intelligence and (2) strive sincerely for the companionship of the Holy Ghost and the spiritual gift of revelation.”1

AI is impacting education, and Brigham Young University champions the use of AI to promote human flourishing. Justin Collins, Academic Vice President at Brigham Young University, taught that “with revelation as our guide, we can use AI to elevate our scholarship and teaching beyond anything we can presently imagine.”2
