Amy A. Wright
Amy Eileen Anderson Wright was born on January 6, 1972, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and has dedicated her life to building God’s kingdom and strengthening His children. Her personal mission to love and serve has extended to each of her callings in the Church. She has served as a Relief Society and Gospel Doctrine teacher, a Primary president at both the ward and stake levels, and a counselor in ward Relief Society and Primary presidencies. After serving on the Young Women General Advisory Council for three years, she was called as the second counselor in the Primary General Presidency, and in April 2022, she was sustained as the first counselor.
Sister Wright’s commitment to God has been present with her throughout her life. In 1994, she married James McConkie Wright in the Salt Lake Temple, following which their family spent four years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while James completed dental school. Afterward, Sister Wright graduated with a degree in human development and family studies from the University of Utah in 1998, which laid a foundation for her lifelong focus on supporting families and those around her. Professionally, Sister Wright has worked in various capacities, including at Marquette University’s College of Communication as an office manager and later at a dental office, supporting marketing and advertising. She has also been a Parent-Teacher Association volunteer and worked as a reading tutor. She and her husband have three sons and have strived to build their family on a foundation of gospel principles.
A survivor of stage 4 ovarian cancer, Sister Wright often shares how her faith sustained her during her illness. When experiencing her most intense pain, she turned to the Primary song “A Child’s Prayer”1 and felt God’s love envelop her in a tangible way. “I knew He was there, that He knew exactly what I was going through, and that He was a loving God,”2 she describes. Despite her own suffering, Sister Wright strived to share this love with others and allowed her experience to help her see others facing trials through the Savior’s eyes. She continues to turn outward and share the light and joy that comes from following Christ.
