Dr. David Daniell was a professor of English at the University of London, and an honorary fellow of Hertford College Oxford. For 25 years he was in charge of Shakespeare studies at all levels at University College London.
Daniell was chairman and founder of the Tyndale Society, which enjoys a worldwide membership, from 1995-2005. He was curator of the British Library’s Tyndale “Let There Be Light” exhibition. He also toured with the Royal Shakespeare Company and made many broadcasts (radio and television) in Europe and America.
Daniell was the author of over 70 books and journal essays, mainly on Shakespeare and the English Bible. In 1994 he published a full biography of William Tyndale, the first to be published in 60 years. His Arden edition of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar was published in 1998. His Penguin Classics edition of Tyndale’s Obedience of a Christian Man was published in February 2000. He also worked on Yale University Press’s Millennium Book, a new account of the English Bible from earliest times to 2000. Dr. Daniell passed away in June of 2016.
