Donald Q. Cannon joined Brigham Young University in 1973 and retired in 2007. During his time at BYU, he was associate dean of Religious Education at Brigham Young University and professor emeritus of Church history and doctrine. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Utah, later attaining his doctorate from Clark University. His expertise in US history, honed during his teaching tenure at the University of Maine, seamlessly transitioned into a focus on LDS Church history when he joined Brigham Young University.
Dr. Cannon also served as the president of the Mormon History Association, further advancing the study of Latter-day Saint history. As a coeditor of the Encyclopedia of Latter-day Saint History and the Historical Atlas of Mormonism, Dr. Cannon has played a pivotal role in shaping the narrative and documentation of the Church’s historical journey. He has written several books and many articles about Church history that have enriched the understanding of Latter-day Saint history for students and researchers alike.
