E. J. Caffaro is an enrollment services counselor at BYU. He was raised in the Bronx, New York, and served in the Colombia Cali Mission. In 1982, he was sealed with his wife, Shari, in the Washington DC temple.
Caffaro graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and went on to earn a master’s degree in physical education from Idaho State University as well. He coached football and taught math at Snow College and then Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) for several years. He then assumed the role of director of the BYU Student Athlete Academic Center in 2002, a position he held until 2011. During this period, he not only provided academic and personal support but also served as a bridge for student-athletes transitioning into the university system.
In 2014, Caffaro accepted a call to serve as a Mission President in Guatemala. His passion for hiking, biking, geography, photography, and a commitment to health and wellness are evident in his pursuits outside the professional arena. Now, as a counselor at BYU, his focus is on fostering student success inside and outside the classroom.
