Gerry Avant is a former editor of the Church News. After obtaining her associate’s degree from Brewton Parker College, Avant attended Brigham Young University, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She taught high school English before joining the Deseret News Staff, where she worked for only a few months before being reassigned to Church News. She served there for 45 years, publishing numerous articles about temple dedications, new Church presidents, and other exciting Church events. Additionally, she participated in every Tabernacle Choir tour from 1991 to 2015.
Avant is a native of Georgia.
