Ruth E. Brasher is an emeritus faculty member of Brigham Young University. She was chair of the Department of Home Economics, associate dean of the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, and director of the Honor Code Office.
Brasher earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics education from BYU, a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Maryland, and a doctorate in sociology from Utah State University. Brasher was the first woman with a doctorate to be hired in the home economics department at BYU. She was the chair of the Advisory Committee on Women’s Concerns twice and served as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Women’s Research Institute. In 2002, she was honored with the Athena Award from the Women’s Business Network, Wells Fargo Bank, and the Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce.
In 1992, Brasher organized a volunteer group based in Provo that makes teddy bears for abused children. As of 2015, the group had made about 20,000 bears, donated to the Children’s Justice Center.
