Tracy Flinders became the vice president of information technology and chief information officer of Brigham Young University on May 18, 2020. Flinders earned a bachelor’s degree in communications studies from BYU and worked in a variety of positions at Novell, WordPerfect, and PowerQuest before joining BYU’s Office of IT in 2004.
From 2018 to 2020, he was BYU’s chief information security officer and chief privacy officer, helping establish and manage the cybersecurity program that protects BYU, BYU–Idaho, and BYU–Hawaii. Under Flinders’ leadership, BYU’s CES security team won IDG’s CSO50 award for demonstrating outstanding business value and thought leadership.
